What is Integrated Lights Out (iLO)?

HPE
iLO is a remote server management system pre-installed on HPE ProLiant servers that allows controlling and monitoring of HPE servers from a remote location (similar to a KVM). HPE iLO management is a powerful tool that allows you to control your server even when offline. The Essentials license for iLO allows you to control the server before the OS has booted, allowing you to restart your server remotely.

iLO provides the following features:

  • Event Log
  • Power Control
  • Remote Control (Pre-OS Boot only for Essentials license)
  • Health Summary (Fans, Temperature, Memory etc.)
  • Power Management
The embedded iLO management software has its own network connection and IP address to allow you to connect via a dedicated IP. iLO provides a remote HTML5 based console, which can be used to administer the server remotely. The iLO port is an Ethernet port, which can be enabled through the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). HPE Integrated Lights-Out can be used to diagnose systems in the event of any issues that arise. The Remote Console, Integrated Remote Console and Remote Serial Console may be used to monitor the system for error messages. The Integrated Management Log and HPE iLO for ProLiant Event Log records useful event diagnostics. HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) for ProLiant Virtual Media (if activated by an iLO Advanced key) may be used to boot and run System Diagnostics Taking its power from the auxiliary power port on the server, the HPE iLO will always be on when the server is plugged in.
